Summer break has just started, and we have already completed our first week of Summer Camp at Enlighten Chinese School. Because this is the first week, there is a smaller number of participants as there are many people traveling overseas during their summer vacation first.
On the first week, we have been teaching our students the Shield and Broadsword form. Since many of the students at enlighten have no background in Kungfu, they have been given wooden sticks painted to look like swords for safety. They’re all taught to keep a safe distance from one another while practicing and not to play with their weapons.
The students this week were very spirited this week. They shouted and hollered while banging on their shields with their broadswords. As they roared, they performed their form with a lot of spirit and power. They all competed for attention and excelled when praised. They were a very spirited and intelligent group, who all showed genuine interest in Kungfu and showed strong critical thinking skills.
This week, there was five students, one TA, and one Teacher. Out of the five students, four of them did not have any experience with Kungfu. Despite this, they were very talented and performed well. They showed precision, skill, and a strong sense of understanding of the culture. The TA took some time to get into his role, but he did a good job helping the students complete their tasks.
We look forward to the upcoming weeks of Summer Camp at Enlighten Chinese School. We hope your summer break is as exciting as ours!
