SKZ Kungfu Camp 7/15-7/19/2024

Updated: Aug 8, 2024

Week 2 of Summer Camp Begins!!!

Day 1: The students have checked in and are learning the procedure for the camp. The group is getting ready for a week of hard work and fun!

The first focus for this week is learning the sword and shield, a warrior's weapon. This form requires much team coordination and spirit.

The second weapon we will focus on is the double daggers. In contrast to the sword and shield, this is typically a concealed weapon and requires much finesse to wield properly.

Kung Fu drums! The students took turns leading the class through a drumming form. This form demands both the students Kung Fu skills, but also their ability to keep rhythm.

Game time! Try to see how many sticks you can pick up without moving any others. This game trains hand eye coordination, focus, and fine muscle control all while remaining fun.

Today we practiced calligraphy. The students learned to write “静如岳” or “Still as a Great Mountain”. This encourages you to have the strength and posture of a mountain.

The students learned how to create a star and a cobweb design using the cat's cradle. These designs can be very difficult and confusing, but everyone persevered and helped each other create the patterns.

Using only two rubber bands, the students were able to create a double star design. Creating these designs can be difficult, but the students worked together to overcome adversity.

While the previous knots were purely decorative, the students now learned how to use rope to help in real life scenarios. Here they are learning how to fasten a bundle of sticks using a single piece of rope.

Here the students are learning a dance that is done in between sticks in order to train their footwork. This dance requires precise footwork, rhythm, and teamwork in order to find success.

Friday is pizza day!!! After a week of hard work, a tasty reward is both deserved and welcome.

To conclude the week, the students were given the opportunity to share what they learned this week to their families. They performed the forms that they worked so hard learning and worked together with their families on a paper cutting project. The students taught their parents how to create a link of hearts showing appreciation for their parents.
